Principal’s Pen Week 5 Term 2

Tēnā koutou katoa,

Welcome to June – hasn’t the last month gone quickly?

Today I want to start by passing on our condolences to the Singh family and the Garton family, both who have lost loved ones in the last week or so.  Our thoughts and hearts are with you.

Alongside our regular learning programmes, over the last week we have seen children and whanau involved in special events.  Last week we had a small group attend the Chess Power Regional tournament at Levin Intermediate.  There were some outstanding results and we now have a player who has qualified for the national tournament in Rotorua later in the year and are waiting to hear if our team has qualified.  Congratulations to Haoyan Bai.

Yesterday we held a lovely Wāhine Toa afternoon tea where over 100 mums, aunties, nana, kuia and whaea enjoyed time together celebrating the influence they have on the lives of the tamariki at Levin East School.  It was a lovely afternoon, and my thanks to all who could make it.  Thanks also to Miss Mavridis, Mrs Raue and Mrs Kusabs for their organisation.

We also had over 40 children attend the Tough Guy, Tough Girl challenge in Papaioea – Palmerston North yesterday.  By all accounts they had a wonderful time, enjoying the event and representing both themselves and the kura superbly.  This looks to be an annual event for our children and I thank Mrs Hirini-Watson for her work to make it happen.  A huge thank you also to the whanau who supported the children at the event, as without parent helpers, none of our trips happen.

  • Our Showquest team hit the stage on Wednesday 16th June, with planning and rehearsals well underway.  A big night for them!
  • 3-Way Conferences. The teacher-student-parent conferences will be held over 3 nights on 22nd, 23rd and 24th June.  School will close at 2pm on the 22nd and 23rd June to allow enough time for all families to book a time to meet with the teachers.  If required, we will arrange some childcare for the days we close at 2pm.
