Principal’s Pen Week 4 Term 2

Tēnā koutou katoa,

The newsletter is a day late this week so that we could show snippets of our in-school birthday celebration yesterday.

On 25th May 1953, Levin East School held its first assembly, so we thought that exactly 68 years later, we should celebrate our birthday.  We had a lovely assembly where we acknowledged the wonderful work of Hannah Rowan, our school chaplain, and also laughed and sang.

This was followed up by a range of birthday games and activities in classes and teams – and of course… CAKE!  Mrs Rowan delivered the cake to all classes and a good time was had by all.  Next year we will look to celebrate again, but differently.

On a different topic, yesterday I received a concerning email from a local parent who noted the number of our whānau who are parking illegally in and around Parsons Avenue and many who are using the Parsons Avenue intersection to complete U-turns.  Please, please consider all the children and families in our area and our Road Patrollers too.  We know that parking is tight at both ends of the school day, but we cannot accept parking on yellow lines (even to ‘just drop children off’).  These are our kids, your kids at risk here.  We all have a responsibility to look out for each and every one of them.

A reminder that Levin East School is closed on Friday 4th June for a Teacher’s only Day.

  • Our Showquest team hit the stage on Wednesday 16th June, with planning and rehearsals well underway.  A big night for them!
  • 3-Way Conferences. The teacher-student-parent conferences will be held over 3 nights on 22nd, 23rd and 24th June.  School will close at 2pm on the 22nd and 23rd June to allow enough time for all families to book a time to meet with the teachers.  If required, we will arrange some childcare for the days we close at 2pm.
  • Our Senior Swimming Sports are planned for Wednesday 2nd June – keep an eye out on the Hero Community Feed and the weekly newsletter for updates.
  • We have a Teacher Only Day on Friday 4th June.  School will be closed on this day.
