Wed Oct 06 05:02pm

Kia ora koutou.
We are keen to hear your thoughts on the ‘big picture’ work at Levin East School.  Please complete as much of the survey as you can.  It will remain anonymous unless you want to go into the prize draw for one of two $50 New World vouchers, as we will need your name and contact number to let you know if you have won.

Please feel free to share this survey link widely and beyond our school – we want the widest possible response to help guide us into 2022 and beyond.

Ngā mihi ki a koutou
Thanking you in advance

Kia ora whānau
We’ve heard great news from the Prime Minister this afternoon. With the exception of Auckland, we will be moving down to Alert Level Delta 2 from midnight tomorrow and schools will reopen on Thursday 9th September for everyone.

We are looking forward to having everyone back onsite!

We have heard that the Delta variant means Level 2 will look somewhat different from last year.

We know that;

> face masks are recommended, but not required in schools.  Those who choose to wear them will be supported
> students and teachers do not need to physically distance
> signing in/out processes will be required and we will clarify these once we have received the final advice from the Ministry of Education
> carers, whānau and visitors to the school should try and keep 2 metres apart from people they do not know
> school events, eg. sports, can continue
> handwashing and sanitiser processes will continue
> Students who are unwell or have symptoms should remain at home
> a number of events/ activities have been impacted by the lockdown and once details are confirmed we will update our school community of any postponement dates or cancellations

We want to take this opportunity to thank;

* our Essential Workers for their service through this time
* our staff for coordinating and balancing on-site learning, distance learning and home life and
* our school community for your ongoing support

Further information will be published once it becomes available.
I know that we will all enjoy the freedoms that Delta’s Level 2 will bring. See you all on Thursday.

Kia ora e te whānau

Trust you are all safe and well.  What a fast-changing world we live in!

The quick move to Level 4, and all of the other safety precautions being undertaken (nasal swab testing, wastewater testing, vaccinations etc.) has given the Government confidence that we are safe to move to Alert Level 3 on Wednesday.

At Alert Level 3, you legally MUST stay within your household bubble unless for essential personal movement including going to work and going to school. As the Prime Minister noted last Friday, schools are essentially closed at Alert Level 3 with the exception of those few children whose parents and carers must go to work at Alert Level 3, and there is no appropriate caregiver at home.

So, Levin East School will be open from Wednesday, for a small number of children who need to attend. As you imagine it will not be school as we know it under Alert Level 2 or 1.  All our usual safety precautions for Alert Level 3 will be in place, including following all the recommendations from the public health experts. This means we will have those few children dropped at the gate, regularly clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, encourage everyone to frequently wash their hands and cover their coughs and sneezes, and keep everyone physically distanced from others as much as possible (1 metre inside and two metres outside). We will also keep school bubbles to no more than 10 students. These bubbles will not mix with other bubbles.  It is most likely that children will not be in their own class or year group, as we minimise the number of bubbles we have.  For children that do need to attend please ensure they understand that it is unlikely they will be in their normal classroom space or with their usual teacher. Siblings will also need to be in the same bubble while at school.

Our systems to support the contract tracing will be in place, which includes the QR code for the staff to sign in and our attendance register.   We will be strictly limiting staff onsite with the majority of our team working from home.  Our office will be closed also.  Parents, families and visitors will not be able to come on-site in Alert Level 3.

You can also assist everyone’s safety by keeping your child at home if they are feeling unwell and please do contact your GP or Healthline, to seek advice about getting tested.

We will continue to support all children who remain learning from home, through our distance learning programme.

While we know how difficult it is trying to work from home as well as support your child’s learning, please keep your child at home if there is an appropriate carer available. For those of you with no other option, we will look forward to seeing your child at school. Please email me ( before Wednesday, if you think your child/ children need/s to attend school so we can be prepared for their arrival.

It was pleasing to hear that across New Zealand compliance is high. As you have been doing, please continue to follow all the alert level requirements at Level 4 and stay at home. It is the best tool we have to keep our community safe.

 Ngā mihi
