Principal's Welcome

Kia ora e te whānau,

What a fantastic Whānau House event yesterday! The sun was shining, the costumes were colourful and our tamariki had a lot of fun moving around the various activities. It was great to see so many tamariki coming to school dressed up in their House colours. Thank you to Miss Wilson for organising the activities and to all of our staff for helping to make the day a success.

Tomorrow the 2023 Levin Cricket Festival is being held at Donnelly Park. Mr Lane and Bailey are taking some of our budding cricket players to participate in the festival. The players attending will meet at the hall steps at 8.15am and leave school from 8.30am in the van with Miss Wilson. We hope they all have a fantastic day!

This week the packaging of our school lunches has changed. The containers are more easily recycled and they have clear tops so the children can see their meal before they open them. There are a mixture of hot meals and wraps, and will often have a snack of yoghurt, carrots or occasionally cake! Our school lunches are for all of our children and all are invited to eat a school lunch.

Our teachers regularly undertake professional learning and this year we are focusing on the teaching of reading. One aspect of teaching reading is ‘shared reading’. Shared reading provides a supportive environment where students can learn about the reading process, enter into rich conversations, ask questions and build understanding. This is a powerful teaching tool and an approach that is inclusive of all learners no matter their ability or interests. Our teachers regularly teach shared reading and they are currently honing their skills to make these lessons even more impactful for our learners.

It was lovely to see you at our Whānau House day yesterday and we hope to see some of you at the cricket festival tomorrow.

Ngā mihi mahana,
Sarah McCord

We are a fruit in schools school and we are looking for 4 wonderful volunteers for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fri to help sort the fruit ready for delivery to our classes. This is done before the start of the school day in the hall kitchen. If you would like to help please pop into the office and let us know.
